A Prostate Cancer Which Was Not To Be
Of all the temporal treasures, health is the most precious. Deepam is dedicated to helping people achieve good health, and this is another story that highlights our commitment.

Tucked away in a small corner of the world’s largest landlocked country, Kazakhstan lies the small city of Shymkent – the hometown of one of our patients diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was referred to us by his friend in Uzbekistan, seeking effective treatment in India.
A strong-willed man and a farmer by profession, he arrived in India alone, through his Uzbek friend, on the promise of assistance from us. Given the present protocols under the Indian Medical system, a biopsy report was mandatory to proceed with his treatment. But he didn’t have it as the test was not done in his home country.

Upon initial consultation, we realized that the symptoms of prostate cancer were only indicative and not affirmative. Small hiccup though – we proceeded for a biopsy.
While awaiting the report, the man fell seriously ill at his hotel despite being diligently covered by precautionary antibiotics.
In the dead of night, we received an urgent call from the hotel, indicating an emergency-like situation. However, as fate would have it, help came in the form of a fellow doctor and his wife staying at the same hotel. Remarkably, they also understood the patient’s native language and were only too happy to help.
Swinging into action swiftly, we called the ambulance, accompanied by a paramedic. Doing the needful, the patient spent the next two days in the hospital under constant monitoring and observation. Eventually, the fever subsided and so did the red rash which had appeared out of nowhere.

As the saying goes “Every cloud has a silver lining,” in this case, it turned out to be like bright sunshine. The much-awaited prostate cancer biopsy report arrived and turned the entire story upside down. The reported cancer was actually just a tumor.
Heaving a great sigh of relief, we proceeded with the necessary next steps of the treatment. A few days later, the patient made a full recovery and departed to his home country, all healthy and happy.
The entire ordeal, though filled with dramatic twists, serves as a vivid testament to the age-old wisdom that “all’s well that ends well.” The incident not only marked the culmination of a successful healthcare journey but also sparked a lasting friendship between us, one that continues to thrive to this day.
